Good morning, Hampton.
Local organizations in Hampton Roads provided free Thanksgiving meals yesterday to help reduce food insecurity amid a government shutdown that disrupted SNAP benefits—offering dine-in and take-out options in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Chesapeake and Suffolk.
Each event served meals on a first-come, first-served basis to seniors, military families and others in need—providing a needed boost during challenging times.
Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads is building two new homes in Norfolk that will soon provide a life-changing gift for two single mothers — their move-in day is set for December 19.
The houses feature customized touches that mark a major step toward fulfilling the American dream.
PETA has launched the Christmutts Toy Drive to collect toys for outdoor dogs in Hampton Roads, urging residents to donate online or at local drop-off sites throughout December—an effort to bring comfort to dogs living in cold conditions.
The drive supports PETA's ongoing care for animals that face harsh living conditions outside.
WHRV will air The Best of Pickin featuring Grammy-nominated bluegrass from Billy Strings, Sierra Hull, and Jason Carter—along with tracks celebrating Greensky Bluegrass’s 25 years and the final album from Reno and Smiley.
The special program airs today from 10-12 on WHRV.
On Dec. 2, four military aid societies will team up for Giving Tuesday to support service members facing financial challenges from rising costs and a recent government shutdown—Lockheed Martin will match every donation up to $1 million.
Last year, the societies raised $1.3 million in emergency support and education resources, and they hope to raise even more this time.
Chartway Promise Foundation celebrates 20 years by funding programs that have helped 1,500 medically fragile children in the region and by supporting local partners with $739,000 this year.
The foundation will announce next grants at year’s end with over $1 million planned for 2026 programs — and it urges residents to donate on Giving Tuesday, December 2.
