  • Local organizations in Hampton Roads provided free Thanksgiving meals yesterday to help reduce food insecurity amid a government shutdown that disrupted SNAP benefits—offering dine-in and take-out options in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Chesapeake and Suffolk. Each event served meals on a first-come, first-served basis to seniors, military families and others in need—providing a needed boost during challenging times.  WTKR
  • Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads is building two new homes in Norfolk that will soon provide a life-changing gift for two single mothers — their move-in day is set for December 19.   • PETA has launched the Christmutts Toy Drive to collect toys for outdoor dogs in Hampton Roads, urging residents to donate online or at local drop-off sites throughout December—an effort to bring comfort to dogs living in cold conditions. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Dec. 2, four military aid societies will team up for Giving Tuesday to support service members facing financial challenges from rising costs and a recent government shutdown—Lockheed Martin will match every donation up to $1 million. Last year, the societies raised $1.3 million in emergency support and education resources, and they hope to raise even more this time.  13 News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Chartway Promise Foundation celebrates 20 years by funding programs that have helped 1,500 medically fragile children in the region and by supporting local partners with $739,000 this year. The foundation will announce next grants at year’s end with over $1 million planned for 2026 programs — and it urges residents to donate on Giving Tuesday, December 2.  13 News Now
