  • Dominion Energy warns residents of rising utility scams during the holiday season and advises customers to hang up if they receive calls demanding immediate gift card or wire transfer payments— the company said it will never request payment by phone or enter homes without proper identification.  WAVY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Virginia Institute of Marine Science is breeding ribbed mussels for the first time to strengthen local living shorelines and reduce erosion.   • Virginia’s new clean slate law will let some people with misdemeanor or felony records petition to have their records sealed or expunged starting July 1, 2026; a workshop in Suffolk is offering clear guidance on how to meet the criteria—local leaders hope this will open a fresh start for those seeking better jobs, housing, or loans.   • Today, as many Hampton residents prepare their Thanksgiving turkey, health experts advise thawing the bird safely by planning four days in the fridge or thawing it with continuously running cold water—this helps flush out bacteria and reduce fire risks from deep frying a frozen turkey.
