COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pharrell Williams supports a food drive planned for Sunday, Nov. 23 at 118 W. Bute Street in Norfolk from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. as Team YELLOW will collect non-perishable food and essentials for families impacted by SNAP cuts—he said he loves Virginia and is determined to help local residents.  WAVY
  • On Veterans Day, local veterans found peace on the water with help from the Freedom Boat Club. Owner Andy Sutter and retired Coast Guard member Ronald Rivera said calm time on the water eased stress—helping them focus on what matters.  WAVY
  • Veterans were honored on Veterans Day at ceremonies in Norfolk and Chesapeake—events that remembered their service. In Norfolk, a wreath was laid at the tomb of General Douglas MacArthur and Jean MacArthur, and in Chesapeake, city leaders spoke to over 100 people with Gold Star mothers present—paying tribute to those who served.  WAVY

  • Every Saturday at 8:00 p.m., WHRO-FM (90.3) airs the program 'This Just In' where host Raymond Jones plays three hours of the newest classical music releases. The show features works by Shostakovich, Bach and other top composers (including performances by leading orchestras) for local listeners to enjoy.  WHRO Public Media
  • Today at 9:00 p.m. on WHRO-FM, host Raymond Jones will air 'A Local Touch — Music with a Virginia Connection' to showcase voices and ensembles from across the Commonwealth. The program highlights local musical talent and features a series of musical performances.  WHRO Public Media
  • ASAP offers free comedy and creative classes for military families and veterans to build new skills and confidence—retired Navy veteran Charles Hart praised the program for its professional approach. The organization will hold a comedy crash course in December and plans to add more classes in 2026.  WAVY
  • Local nonprofit Black BRAND marks its 10 year anniversary by honoring three trailblazing Black women—Charvalla West, Tiffany Richardson-Harrell, and Mayor Jessie M. Rattley—who broke barriers in Hampton Roads. The Hidden Figures Honors will be presented during Black Diamond Weekend’s 10th Anniversary Celebration from Nov. 13-15.  WTKR

  • On Tuesday night, viewers in Hampton saw the northern lights light up the sky — a display made possible by new solar activity and following an early dusting of snow — as the phenomenon was noted across the region.  WAVY
