- ➤ Hampton-based nonprofit VersAbility Resources received a planning grant to build a 75,000-square-foot training hub for job training—focusing on shipbuilding, logistics and advanced manufacturing. Local employers such as Huntington Ingalls Industries are partnering to develop industry-aligned curriculum that will open doors for people with disabilities. WAVY

- ➤ A study by WalletHub found that Virginia was the sixth most affected state by the shutdown—using measures like federal jobs and contract dollars per person. The report compared all states as the government experienced its 23rd funding lapse since 1976. WAVY
- ➤ Yesterday, the Community Development Department held a groundbreaking and ribbon cutting in Fordham to launch the Model Block initiative, which will build or renovate four homes on Smiley Road to show builders the potential for affordable, energy-efficient housing.
