ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority ended its contract with Tidewater Fibre Corporation today, stopping curbside recycling in James City and York counties because the company skipped pickups, spilled recycling, and damaged property. Local governments are using temporary measures — York is converting recyclables to trash until Oct. 31, James City is offering drop-off sites, Poquoson has an emergency contract, and Williamsburg remains unaffected — while working on a long-term solution.  WHRO Public Media

  • The Navy League of the United States will host The Hampton Roads U.S. Navy Ball at the Hilton Norfolk The Main on Oct. 18 from 5:30–11:30 p.m.—the event honors 250 years of service by the Armed Forces with live music, entertainment, and prize opportunities, and tickets cost between $40 and $145.90.  WAVY
  • 10 On Your Side is examining a campaign ad in the District 86 race—covering Poquoson, Hampton and York County—that accuses incumbent A.C. Cordoza of predatory behavior by citing a police report on a gun incident and a sexual misconduct claim. Cordoza refuted these allegations, saying he was the victim and that his past online actions were teenage mistakes.  WAVY
