  • Scammers sent text messages from unknown numbers that trick victims into confirming personal information and cyber expert Len Gonzales said responding gives hackers more ways to target individuals—he advised everyone to delete suspicious texts immediately.  WAVY

  • Jenna Bush Hager (talk show host) visited The Norfolk Forum at Chrysler Hall on Thursday and discussed her life, career and new children’s book I Loved You First. She noted her family’s military ties (15 years on the Today Show) and emphasized the value of sharing positive stories.  WAVY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Young adults in Hampton are moving to rural areas for more affordable housing as remote work becomes more common, explained demographer Hamilton Lombard. He noted that while counties like Isle of Wight gain residents, urban centers such as Virginia Beach continue to lose young workers — raising concerns for future local labor markets.  WAVY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Data from the Chesapeake Bay Program show the watershed lost over 28,000 acres of tree canopy from 2013 to 2022 even as record plantings occurred in 2024 — seven local cities lost more than 4,000 acres, with 40% of that loss in Virginia Beach. Officials state the new plantings, which increased since 2014, are key to filtering pollution and protecting water quality.  WHRO Public Media

  • Residents in Hampton are warned that scam emails impersonating the Planning Department are asking for wire transfers and extra payments for permits—city officials said they will never request payments by email and urged anyone receiving suspicious messages to report them to Hampton Police or forward them to [email protected] WAVY
  • Sandy Bottom Nature Park received $136,065.60 in state grant funding from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Recreational Trails Program to improve its trails and accessibility—making it one of 12 projects funded across Virginia. The grant will expand outdoor options for local residents and visitors.  City of Hampton
