  • Phoebus Jazz Festival will take place at the American Theatre in Hampton on September 26 and 27 with top jazz performers including headliner Steve Smith and Vital Information on Friday and saxophonist Eric Marienthal with Michael Hawkins and the Brotherhood on Saturday. 13News Now is a sponsor.  13 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia’s Superintendent Emily Anne Gullickson said that any school employee who celebrates or condones political violence—such as by praising the killing of activist Charlie Kirk—will be disqualified from teaching and working with children. Local school districts in Newport News and Accomack County are investigating social media posts and may refer those involved to the Board of Education for licensing revocation.  WAVY

  • Virginia voters in Hampton Roads will cast ballots in a special school board election along with choosing constitutional officers such as sheriffs and treasurers—WHRO collected local questions and candidates answered them to help voters review their plans before the vote.  WHRO Public Media
  • Virginia voters will choose new state leaders like governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and House of Delegate members while counties such as James City County and Williamsburg will vote on school board positions in the upcoming election.   • Experts say clinical trials for a new Alzheimer’s prevention drug are underway with results expected in 2027 and 2029—Dr. Hamid Okhravi of Eastern Virginia Medical School noted that an innovative blood test can detect early signs of the disease before memory loss appears.  WAVY
