CRIME NEWS

  • Phil Casone, a contractor with nearly a decade at Casone Enterprises, has been accused of taking customers' money and leaving jobs unfinished — 11 court judgments totaling over $125,000 have been issued, and clients like Jon McMasters and Mike Schirmer still await refunds.  WAVY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Nonprofit Hampton Roads Jazz Inc.—founded by jazz drummer and educator Jae Sinnett—seeks to revive live jazz and music education in all seven regional cities through intimate concerts and youth masterclasses. Its next major event will be the Phoebus Jazz Festival in Hampton, scheduled for September 26th to 27th with shows starting at 7:30 p.m.  13 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mike DeMatteo and Tim Receveur launched the Amplifying Talent program to give students hands-on training in live event production at the Supernova International Ska Festival starting September 12 at Fort Monroe in Hampton. The program uses a $4,900 grant and partners with local music schools—such as Alpha School of Music and Revolution Rock Music School—to build technical skills for livestreaming and event production.  WHRO Public Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists with Gray Fish Tag Research tracked a tagged Atlantic striped bass that swam from New Jersey to Nantucket and then turned west near Rhode Island—showing a migration pattern farther offshore than expected. The fish will continue south this fall to likely spend winter in Chesapeake Bays—a change that could affect local fishing guides.  WAVY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A permanent Shoreline Operations Station was built at Buckroe Beach to address safety concerns in Hampton after a summer of using a temporary tent. The station has served over 2,000 visitors and given safety tips to more than 250 beachgoers while extra police presence will continue until October—marking a step toward safer beach operations.  WTKR

  • A Chesapeake family is urgently searching for a stem cell donor for their 9-year-old son battling leukemia — doctors explain that finding a match is hard due to differences in genetic markers and previous tests from family members did not match.  WTKR
