- ➤ PBS Kids’ new animated series—Weather Hunters—had a local screening at Hampton Public Library where families made wind socks and learned about weather, and the show will premiere on Sept. 8 on WHRO TV 15 at 7:30 a.m. and WHRO Kids at 4:30 p.m. WHRO Public Media

- ➤ Scientists at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science in Gloucester Point found four stone crabs in Virginia waters for the first time, showing that warmer Chesapeake Bay waters let tropical species move north. The specimens, caught by a Norfolk waterman, will help researchers check if the crabs are reproducing locally+ they plan to share their findings soon. WHRO Public Media
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than $7 million in federal funding will go to four Hampton Roads airports—$4.7 million for Newport News-Williamsburg’s general aviation apron, $1.6 million for Norfolk International’s terminal access road, nearly $1.1 million for Chesapeake’s fuel farm expansion, and $361,000 to update Suffolk Executive’s layout plan—as part of a larger $48 million investment announced by Senators Warner and Kaine to improve Virginia airports. - ➤ Virginia reported 194 deaths in custody last year under a law passed in 2024—an advisory panel said that 16% of agencies did not submit complete data, making it difficult to recommend safety changes.
