Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 11th of August.
Good morning, Hampton.
🏘️ Community
Dozens of children from across Hampton Roads began a seven-day stay at Camp Hope, a summer camp for kids who faced domestic violence organized by the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office on Sunday.
Lt. Juan Serrano said the camp offers outdoor activities, counseling, and friendship building to help the children heal—furthermore, the program is supported by over $30,000 raised yearly to keep it free for families.
🎓 Education
Hampton City Schools bus mechanic Tim Cullen won the Virginia Best School Bus Technician competition in Richmond in July and outperformed his peers in both a written test and hands-on challenges.
His win comes as the new school year begins—adding extra confidence for families who rely on the district’s 250 buses.
