ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Members of the Chesapeake Bay Commission met Wednesday morning to learn about managing agricultural land and balancing economic needs with environmental goals—part of a pilot program that pays for removing nitrogen and phosphorus from the water. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delegate Rodney Willet welcomed the FDA’s recent approval of Juul products and said the agency should authorize more vape items before Virginia’s new registry law goes into effect later this year. The law is meant to help local shops avoid fines for selling unauthorized products — though vape groups claim it may hurt businesses and exceed federal limits.  WHRO Public Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • A studio broadcast of Another View yesterday featured a discussion on breast cancer risks that pointed out African American women develop the disease less often than white women yet face a 40% higher mortality rate due in part to limited access to mammograms.
