CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday night around 8:07 p.m., a man traveling eastbound on Greenwell Drive was struck by gunfire near Diggs Drive—his car, two unoccupied vehicles, and nearby homes were hit, and he suffered non life-threatening injuries before being taken to a local hospital as police investigated.  WAVY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State and local officials in Virginia are starting a new test project that uses cameras, radars, and sound sensors to watch drone flights near Hampton Roads and Langley (it follows tests from 2023). The Air Combatant Command will use Virginia's flight data to warn of threats while federal and state groups work together despite overlapping rules.  WHRO Public Media
  • Hampton earned its fifth All-America City Award from the National Civic League on June 29 for working with residents to fight sea level rise (it is one of only 10 cities honored this year). City Manager Mary Bunting said the city will hold more public meetings this fall as it improves flood planning and coastal projects.  13 News Now
  • Sheila Elliott told Congress that VA policies hurt hiring at the Hampton facility after one psychologist left because ending telework forced clinicians into crowded bullpens and centralized HR slowed recruitment—Rep.
