  • Beloved actor, poet, and musician Malcolm-Jamal Warner died at 54 and left a mark on our community after he visited Hampton Roads in June. CRIME NEWS

  • Hampton police are investigating after a suspect shot a man multiple times on the 800 block of Griffin Street just after 11:48 p.m.—he then fled in a stolen vehicle with a woman inside who was later released, and investigators say the man is expected to survive.  13 News Now
  • Hampton police reported that on Saturday a suspect shot an adult man on Griffin Street and then stole a vehicle with a female passenger inside while the victim was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries — the woman was later released unharmed.  WAVY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Data from long-term climate records show that from June 1 through July 16, sites like Norfolk International Airport and Oceana Naval Air Station recorded 42 days with dew points of 70°F or higher, setting new records for Hampton Roads. Langley Air Force Base and Elizabeth City Coast Guard Station also tied their records, and if the trend continues the summer may become the most humid on record.  13 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Navy has $380 million in federal funding to privatize 14 barracks housing junior sailors across Hampton Roads after citing a shortage of 3,000 beds and poor living conditions. Contract negotiations are expected to be finalized in August—paving the way to demolish six outdated facilities and build new housing at Newport News Shipyard and NS Norfolk.  WHRO Public Media

  • Kayla Stallings, a Norfolk woman, suffered multiple miscarriages from fibroids until she received care at Chesapeake Regional Hospital where Dr. Steven Powers used the Acessa procedure—helping her preserve fertility. She became pregnant soon after the treatment, which offers an alternative for women who want to keep their ability to have children.  WAVY
  • Sentara Health Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Sarah Dawson said medications including antidepressants (like Prozac), blood pressure drugs, and painkillers may make people more heat-sensitive and prone to illnesses such as heat stroke and dehydration. She advised those taking these drugs to keep them cool and follow label instructions during heat warnings.  WAVY
