EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Community Outreach Coalition is opening a new workforce training center at 1702 Todds Ln in Hampton to help people get job training and enroll in college or GED programs. The center will offer certifications in personal care aid — media production — cybersecurity and early childhood education, and its grand opening is planned for August.  WTKR
  • Morgan Norris ‘25 of Hampton University earned ninth place in the prestigious Hearst Journalism Awards for her multimedia report 'Norfolk Underwater: Lost Time' — her work explored how rising sea levels have impacted Norfolk’s Black communities. She was also chosen as a 2025 Pulitzer Center Reporting Fellow, adding to Hampton’s growing legacy in journalism.  The Hampton Roads Messenger

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Virginia DMV is now offering the Blue Envelope Program to help officers communicate with drivers with autism during traffic stops by letting them carry important documents and an alert card in a bright blue envelope — which guides law enforcement to use patience and clear language — available free in DMV centers statewide.  13 News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sentara Brock Cancer Center celebrated five years of offering cancer care by introducing its second 3D mobile mammography van on Thursday—designed to serve Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach with 2,000 screenings—and it plans to add a third van by year-end to help reach more patients. The center serves over 900 patients a day.  WTKR
