  • Virginia State Police issued a critically missing adult alert for 54-year-old David Murray Edquest, who was last seen walking in the 9200 block of Old Stage Road North around 9 a.m. Thursday plus officials say he is at risk and urge anyone with information to call 757-566-0112.  WAVY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia warned that a federal funding freeze is holding back over $6 billion in grants for after-school programs, which could lead to closing up to 1,000 clubs nationwide—14 of them in Virginia. Kevin Will said his clubs will fight to keep offering meals, homework help and safe after-school care for local children.  WAVY
  • On July 10th, Dr. John Caggiano, Deputy Superintendent and Chief of Staff for Hampton City Schools, joined WHRV’s ongoing Education Matters program to discuss summer learning loss, the Academy System, and the rollout of a new US History curriculum—highlighting key local education steps.  WHRO Public Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hampton City Council approved plans on July 9 to redevelop the former Wood’s Orchard site into a multifamily housing community by changing zoning and authorizing up to 316 units—efforts that support the city’s housing and economic goals. The council also honored civic milestones by proclaiming July 26 as Americans with Disabilities Act 35th Anniversary Day, celebrating Hampton’s 415th birthday, and recognizing the city’s All-America City Award from Denver.  City of Hampton

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sentara Health switched to new bulk contrast injector machines for CT scans to reduce plastic waste and lower disposal costs—cutting costs by nearly $900,000 and reducing waste by about 78,000 pounds annually.
