Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 5th of July.
Good morning, Hampton.
On July 4, Another View featured three environmental activists (Thelonius Cook, a farmer on the Eastern Shore; Tyrone Jarvis, owner of Go Green Auto Care; and Otis Jones, board chair of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation) who discussed ways to protect the environment and shared a history lesson on America’s 250th anniversary (with remarks from Senator Mamie Locke).
New Virginia solar farm rules require developers to set aside conservation easements on more than 10 acres of prime farmland plus may allow a fee payment instead of an easement, and the measure has been in effect since June.
Local farmers remain skeptical the regulation will prevent the permanent loss of valuable soil and warn that solar projects could change farming profits forever.
