CRIME NEWS

  • Hampton police arrested 62-year-old Michael Artis after a shooting on the first block of Langley Ave at 5:23 p.m. — the incident stemming from a disagreement left a man with non-life-threatening injuries — and he now faces multiple charges.  WAVY
  • Hampton Police reported that an 18-year-old male was seriously injured in a parking lot shooting around 4:37 p.m.—hospital officials said the teen arrived at Sentara CarePlex Hospital with life-threatening gunshot wounds and the motive remains under investigation.  WTKR
  • Hampton police arrested 25-year-old Eric Fleet on charges including murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and firearm offenses—after a shooting on June 10 at a Quality Inn on West Mercury Boulevard that left 24-year-old Monica Rodriguez dead and a man with life-threatening injuries.  WAVY

  • Brandy and Monica announced they will launch a 24-city 'The Boy Is Mine' tour that includes a Hampton stop on November 23—tickets go on sale Friday and the tour begins on Oct. 16 in Cincinnati with supporting acts Kelly Rowland, Muni Long, and Jamal Roberts.  WAVY
  • The Hampton History Museum is opening a new exhibit Saturday that explores the Battle of Hampton—Virginia’s first Revolutionary War fight—by showcasing the voices and decisions of 24 local figures who experienced the conflict.   • The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center in Hampton recently opened an exhibition called 'Please Touch the Art' featuring quilted homages to famous paintings designed by Sally Barker for the visually impaired using a unique color code—visitors can feel the textures that match colors to help them appreciate the art.
