Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 19th of June.
Good morning, Hampton.
🏘️ Community
Today, WAVY partnered with United Methodist Family Services to improve the homes of two foster families in Hampton Roads during its annual Founder’s Day of Caring.
Team members worked in Virginia Beach and Hampton (upgrading homes with landscaping, décor, fencing, and toy donations) to help local families amid a foster care crisis (with over a thousand children in need).
🎭 Culture
Radio listeners are invited to tune in Friday night 10-12 on 89.5 for The Best of Pickin—this show features bluegrass music from The Lonesome River Band and other noted acts.
Sammy Shelor, who formed the band in 1982, remains the only original member while the program plays both classic tunes and new material.
🏛️ Government
Today, the Virginia Board of Contractors is on track to receive more than 14,000 new license applications from contractors and tradesmen in the Commonwealth— a ten percent increase from last year and nearly double the volume of a decade ago, officials said.
Governor Youngkin and Secretary of Labor Slater add that the surge follows new investments intended to boost opportunities in skilled trades.
