- ➤ Today, Hampton University announced that two professors were awarded ACLS HBCU Fellowships to support research in the humanities—English professor Dr. Hannah Saltmarsh will use a $50K research award and a $2,500 programming grant to complete a book on Black feminist mothering while Dr. Shu-Shan Lee received a $10K grant along with a $2,500 campus award to boost his research on global history and civic engagement—and the awards shine a light on Hampton’s dedication to scholarly excellence. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The HRBT expansion project will hit two important steps this fall as Mary—the 430-foot machine—will break through the second eastbound tunnel in September and eastbound drivers will start using a new bridge section by early September. The nearly $4 billion project, which began almost five years ago, will finish in February 2027 and double the tunnel's capacity. WHRO Public Media
- ➤ The GAO reported that delays with a new electromagnetic catapult on the nearly complete USS John F. Kennedy—now 95 percent built—will cause its planned July delivery to be missed. Navy leaders blame ongoing supply chain issues and a shortage of skilled workers, and the shipyard is revising work schedules to limit further delays. WHRO Public Media
- ➤ A recent report by the Southern Poverty Law Center shows that Virginia militia groups have changed their organization since January 6 so that they now work with many leaders—making them harder to track.
