Drivers headed east on I-64 in Hampton faced major delays on Thursday morning after a disabled tractor-trailer shut down all eastbound lanes at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, creating a three-mile backup—crews worked on the scene with no reopening time given.

Local business owners in Hampton are worried about rising costs from a pending U.S.-China tariff deal on magnets and rare earth metals—a deal that awaits presidential approval.

A recent survey found that 80 percent of small businesses are adjusting prices, changing suppliers and delaying orders to keep costs low.

Local economists at Old Dominion University warned at its Midyear Economic Forecast breakfast that rising tariffs and federal job cuts are heightening uncertainty and sparking consumer anxiety.

A final decision on the project is expected by June 20—critics say that keeping restoration close to affected areas is essential.
