CRIME NEWS

  • York-Poquoson deputies responded around 11 p.m. Monday at Yorktown Beach after reports of three men brandishing concealed firearms — two intoxicated adults were arrested and are held at Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail while a 17-year-old was released and will face juvenile charges; officers also confiscated two loaded Glock semi-automatic pistols and one loaded Taurus semi-automatic pistol.  13 News Now
  • A woman died and a man was seriously injured after a shooting near midnight at the Quality Inn on West Mercury Boulevard in Hampton — police say the suspect fled on foot and are asking for public help in identifying them.  WTKR
  • Hampton Police are investigating a murder-suicide in the Capps Quarters area after a man fatally shot his mother and then took his own life Tuesday morning at about 6:30 a.m.—officials identified the deceased as former Councilman Randy Gilliland.  WAVY

  • Hampton Police Department will give free steering wheel locks to Kia and Hyundai owners on Saturday, June 14 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the HPD Training Academy at 300 Butler Farm Road—only one lock per vehicle is available while supplies last.  WAVY
  • Sen. Tim Kaine visited Yorktown Naval Weapons Station on Monday morning to join a closed lunch with command personnel and tour updated barracks completed in 2023—he said quality housing eases stress and helps keep military personnel, and he hopes the model will be used at other bases.  WAVY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Colonial Behavioral Health will break ground Sept. 10 on a new crisis service center on 14 acres along Galt Lane near the Eastern State Hospital campus—financed by Gov. Glen Youngkin’s Right Help Right Now initiative—and it will be the only center between Glen Allen and Hampton to offer emergency mental health services and crisis stabilization.  WHRO Public Media
