- ➤ Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue safely rescued a kitten from a drain pipe at the 400 Block of E Street on Friday around 11:35 a.m. They used food to lure the kitten out and transferred it to the Animal Response Team for care and relocation. WTKR

- ➤ WHRO FM welcomed classical announcer Diane Jones on May 22 (after 16 years on air in Syracuse) and she brought her expertise as a host, composer, and performer to Norfolk. WHRO Public Media
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Virginia schools may face reduced support for English learners after the U.S. Department of Education plans to close the Office of English Language Acquisition (which helped around 35,000 students), potentially increasing state tests for roughly 11% of students. WHRO Public Media
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, Hampton Planning Commission recommended that City Council revoke Southern Comfort Restaurant & Lounge’s special use permit, which would reduce its operating hours. Owner Eddie Gomez explained the changes to fix security lapses and other issues, and Council will decide on the matter on June 10. WTKR
