  • On May 10, a pop-up party at Buckroe Beach in Hampton drew around 400 students and led to multiple fights, and police said they are using social media and working with schools to plan future responses—city leaders worry the trend could cause more disruptions.  WTKR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tonight at 9:00 p.m., host Raymond Jones will present a selection of Virginia Arts Festival–connected artists on WHRO-FM 90.3 in a program called A Local Touch. The show will feature the Zemlinsky Quartet performing String Quartet No. 4, Edgar Meyer with the Emerson String Quartet and Tessa Lark’s rendition of Schubert’s Fantasie, Renée Fleming’s vocal performance and a live collaboration by Yo-Yo Ma and Chris Thile — with upcoming shows scheduled in Williamsburg, Norfolk and Virginia Beach.  WHRO Public Media

  • The Memorial Day holiday will cause many city facilities to close on Monday, May 26—city offices, libraries, schools, and community centers will be closed while trash pickup is moved to Wednesday, May 28 and street sweeping to Thursday, May 29, with parks and certain sites remaining open by regular hours.  City of Hampton
