Good morning, Hampton.

A man died in a hit and run when he was struck while crossing the eastbound lanes at West Mercury Boulevard and North Armistead Avenue at about 10:50 p.m. Sunday — police are investigating the incident and seeking information about the driver who fled the scene.

Hampton City Council will consider an ordinance in June that bans camping, sleeping, and storing personal items on public property to address homelessness on the Peninsula — the rule would require police to warn violators before fining or arresting them.

City officials are also discussing a year-round shelter and support services as part of a regional effort to improve housing capacity.
