  • A Hampton Roads mother, Mona Gunn, has joined Gold Star Mothers on the Sacred Soil Collection Tour in France — she and four others will visit cemeteries in France and Belgium to gather soil to restore an Arlington monument for America’s 250th birthday this July; Gunn lost her son in 2000.  WTKR

  • Dr. Smile is a musical that tells the story of dental pioneer Dr. Valli Meeks and her work helping people with HIV, and it will open Friday, May 15 at Zeiders American Dream Theater in Virginia Beach and run through May 30 with her husband Clyde Santana + team behind the production.  WHRO Public Media

  • After nearly 11 months away, the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group is set to return to Hampton Roads soon, with several fighter and support squadrons already landing and destroyer ships scheduled to arrive in the coming days.   • The federal FDA rules will widen the list of approved vape products to back a state law effective July 1 that makes it harder for minors to buy vapes, according to Attorney General (Jay Jones).  WHRO Public Media
  • Lawmakers are planning to update building codes to require diaper-changing stations in public restrooms after Sen. Elizabeth Bennett-Parker advanced a proposal — inspired by her personal challenge — at a board meeting on May 11. Public input is invited before the final vote.  WHRO Public Media
