Port of Virginia CEO Stephen Edwards said the port is in a strong position to handle new tariffs from China because only 19% of its business comes from China and ongoing upgrades boost its capacity.
He said East Coast ports will face tariff impacts later in May—container arrivals here fell 7.6% last month.

Henrico County authorities are searching for Gerard Anthony Harvell— a 48-year-old man with black hair, brown eyes, and a build of 6-foot tall weighing about 190 lbs who left his home in the 2700 block of Byron Street on April 29 at 10 a.m. in a gray 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee and was last heard from at 1 p.m., as he may be headed to Hampton Roads.

Little Theatre of Norfolk opens Tony Award-winning musical 'Memphis' today to show the story of a DJ who broke color barriers on the radio in the 1950s in segregated Memphis.
The play runs through June 1+ director Sharon Davidson Cook says the production uses strong language to spark conversation about race and division.

Yesterday, the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue launched the CARES Team in partnership with the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board and Sentara Health to help non-violent individuals in mental health crises—its pilot program pairs a behavioral health clinician with an emergency medical responder to reduce police involvement and connect people with care.
