ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The National Transportation Safety Board said a loose counterweight plug may have caused the crash at Langley Air Force Base that killed renowned aerobatic pilot Rob Holland on April 24 just after 11:30 a.m. as witnesses saw his MX Aircraft MXS near runway 8 before it lost control.  13 News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Paradise Ocean Club reopened May 2 with a new business model that limits capacity to 1,000 people—designed for a more family-friendly setting after a 2022 shooting led to lease changes. Owner Baxter Simmons said the club will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with $5 admission and live music from 6-10 p.m. under a new 10-year lease.  WTKR

CRIME NEWS

  • Hampton police are investigating the death of missing man Henry Jordan, 42, who was found on March 12 in the 2400 block of West Weaver Road after a man-down call and now treat his death as a homicide.  WTKR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Newport News Mayor Phillip Jones said increased military spending could boost shipbuilding and workforce development in Hampton Roads following meetings with federal officials in Washington. He noted that plans for new ship contracts and relocated fighter jets may spur local growth while some experts warned that long-term spending might be unsustainable — officials remain optimistic about the region’s future.  WTKR
