  • Hampton police are investigating the death of a 73-year-old man as a homicide after police found him in a residence on Azalea Drive around 5:45 p.m. on April 25 and are offering up to $1,500 for tips that lead to an arrest.  13 News Now

  • WHRO Vice President of News Maurice Jones recalled how his eighth grade teacher, Mrs. Palmer, set him on a new path by helping him serve as a page and guiding him through college applications, which changed his life from his days on a tobacco farm to a successful media career. HEALTH NEWS

  • Officials in Hampton unveiled the B.J. Roberts Behavioral Health Center to help people in mental health crises and reduce pressure on hospitals and law enforcement. The center is named after the city's first Black sheriff and can serve 39 patients—16 with beds for longer assessments, 16 for short-term care, and 7 brought in by police—as it awaits its expanded service license.  WHRO Public Media
  • Virginia hospitals reported an 11% rise in substance abuse disorder diagnoses over the past five years from about 57,000 to 64,000 as changes in training improved detection after the pandemic.
