COMMUNITY NEWS

  • During Tuesday's Earth Day tour, local officials and Congressman Bobby Scott showed plans to fix flooding in the historic Aberdeen Gardens community—finding that a $20 million grant has been frozen and new funding must be secured. Residents said work still needs to be done, although no start date has been set.  WTKR
  • Today, Hampton's Hampton Queen ferry is set to run its first full season after nearly two years of maintenance, and a ribbon cutting recently marked the milestone as the vessel resumes narrated tours and private events. Vice president Drew Yochum (of Hampton Roads Harbor Tours) said tickets should be booked in advance because the ferry holds only 100-110 passengers.  WTKR

CRIME NEWS

  • Hampton Police said they are investigating the death of Henry L. Jordan Jr, 42, after his body was found on West Weaver Road a day after he was reported missing on March 11 & tests showed his death was caused by a gunshot wound.  WAVY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Youngkin signed a law that lets the state use up to $200 million a year in bonds to speed up repairs or replacements of key bridges and tunnels (including the 67-year-old Norris Bridge). VDOT will use the funds starting in 2028 to improve these structures and help reduce lengthy detour routes for many vehicles.  WHRO Public Media
  • Today, the City Council is holding a work session at 1 p.m. and a legislative session at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall’s eighth floor to review the city manager's recommended budget for Fiscal Year 2025—this includes a briefing on Hampton City Schools and public hearings on both the budget and a plan to lower the real estate tax rate—and a second public hearing is scheduled for May 7.  City of Hampton

  • Local allergist Dr. Gary Moss from Sentara Health explained that as allergy season peaks today, generic medications like Zyrtec offer similar relief to brand names at a much lower cost.
