ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Hampton police said a three vehicle collision on Tuesday at the intersection of West Mercury Boulevard and Martha Lee Drive caused one fatality and injured two others—73-year-old Lucille McPherson of Newport News was the victim as investigators continue reviewing the case. 13 News Now
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today in Hampton Roads, the National Weather Service updated its alert system by renaming its Excessive Heat Watch to Extreme Heat Watch and Excessive Heat Warning to Extreme Heat Warning—criteria for dangerous heat remain the same. The change aims to clearly communicate the risks of heat that can make the temperature feel 110 degrees for three hours or more. 13 News Now

- ➤ City Manager Mary Bunting proposed a fiscal 2026 budget that cuts property taxes to $1.14 per $100 assessed value, gives a 3.5% pay bump to civilian workers, and raises stormwater fees by $1 and wastewater fees by $2.74 starting July 1. The total budget nears $678 million—a 5.4% increase from last year—and public hearings will occur on April 23 and May 7 with a final vote on May 14 as the full recommendation is released on April 15 at Hampton Public Library. 13 News Now
- ➤ City Manager Mary Bunting recommended reducing Hampton’s property tax rate to $1.14 per $100 and increasing monthly stormwater fees by $1, wastewater fees by $2.74, and civilian wages by 3.5% during a Wednesday work session.
