Bird Girl Bottle Shop turned an old Hilton neighborhood home in Newport News into a local spot for beer, wine, and weekly pizza specials, owners Derek and Britt Lapiska said the simple menu helped the business win quick local support.

The shop is open Wednesday through Sunday starting at 11 a.m.+ it also serves calzones and avocado toasts made on pizza dough.
