  • Work began on March 18 for a new playground at Buckroe Beach after outdated equipment was removed last season—officials say it will open this summer. Residents can pick up their personalized fence pickets at the Comfort Station on Sunday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. or Wednesday evenings from 4 to 6 p.m.  City of Hampton

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed a bill that requires all passengers — including those in the back seat — to wear seat belts because Virginia has some of the lowest usage rates in the nation. The new law will go into effect July 1.  WAVY
  • Gov. Glenn Youngkin finished his review of 916 bills and the $188 billion budget proposal by his Monday deadline at 11:59 p.m.—he approved 599 bills, amended 159 and vetoed 157, including proposals to cap drug prices, legalize retail marijuana and raise the minimum wage. He added $300 million to the state's rainy day fund and lawmakers will meet on April 2 to consider his recommendations.  WTKR
